MEDICAL INSURANCE  BILLING / CODING (MIBC)

Medical Insurance Billing and Coding is a thriving alternative to working in direct patient care. You want to enter the growing healthcare field, but you prefer administrative opportunities - consider a career in Medical Insurance Billing / Coding.

A Medical Biller processes the paperwork required to complete patient claims. You will learn the necessary skills to become a successful medical biller. These skills include efficiently processing medical claims, billing insurance companies, and handling patient invoices. Courses include medical terminology, medical office procedures, medical billing, and medical coding, including utilization of the ICD-9 and the CPT.

Every medical service (such as an office visit, surgical procedure, and testing) has a numerical code associated with it. A Medical Coder identifies and assigns numerical codes to patient procedures and diagnoses by abstracting information and utilizing required coding systems. This information is then submitted for financial reimbursement to health insurance companies and/or government agencies.

This program starts with the basics and guides you step-by-step. Students with little or no medical experience learn quickly and easily. The Medical Insurance Billing/Coding program is detailed and comprehensive so that you acquire the needed skills to become a successful Medical Insurance Biller/Coder.

The Medical Insurance Biller/Coder typically works away from the hustle and bustle of healthcare facilities in claims processing offices or the billing departments of clinics or hospitals. Although not directly involved in providing patient care, they still have the opportunity to interact with patients and their families.

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment in medical information and claims processing will continue to grow much faster than average through the year 2014, and facilities from the smallest medical offices and clinics to the largest hospitals will be looking for skilled Medical Insurance Billers/Coders.
